I arrived in Blyth Ontario last night as the sun was setting. Woke this morning and began the gig of interim AD of the Festival. A day of greetings and play readings, plenty of talk about next summers slate of offerings. After locking the office door late this afternoon I got on my bike and rode 10 k to the next town over and then rode back. The air was sweet with life, the crops high and healthy, dogs sometimes barked as I rode past farms, there were hills and flats, straight-aways and bends in the highway, all a part of the experience. There's plenty always going on, a field that appears calm is full of busy life, a road that sits empty has ghosts floating up and down the line, in the ditches alongside and in the air above. Quiet has its own volume. A truck or car hurries past giving me a bit of space to continue pedaling. Back home now, night 2 is on and rolling toward bed...
